Free Mouse Scroll Wheel Test Online
Is your mouse wheel skipping, jumping, or scrolling the wrong way? This Mouse Scroll Wheel Test shows exactly what your wheel is sending to the browser. Scroll over the test box and watch the counters update in real time.
How to Use the Mouse Scroll Wheel Test
- Place your cursor over the dashed test box.
- Scroll up and down with your mouse wheel. On a phone or tablet, swipe up and down inside the box.
- Watch the counters below the box change as you scroll.
- Read the summary message that appears under the counters.
- Press Reset test to start over, or Copy results to save your numbers.
Keep your cursor inside the box while testing. If you move it outside, the page itself scrolls instead of the test.
What Each Result Means
The tool tracks eight values. Here is what each one tells you.
Scroll up: The number of upward scroll steps detected.
Scroll down: The number of downward scroll steps detected.
Total steps: All scroll steps combined. If you scrolled 10 steps up and 10 steps down, this should read 20.
Last delta Y: The vertical scroll value of your most recent wheel movement. Its size can differ between browsers, devices, and scroll settings, so use it to compare movements on the same setup.
Steps per second: How fast you are scrolling. Spin the wheel quickly to see how well it keeps up.
Tilt left/right: Counts sideways wheel movements. If your mouse has a tilting wheel, push it left and right to check it. A count of 0 can simply mean your mouse has no tilt feature.
Wheel clicks: Counts presses of the scroll wheel button. Click the wheel to confirm it registers.
Direction glitches: Flags direction changes that don’t match how you scrolled. If you scroll down steadily and this number climbs, your wheel may be misreading its movement.
When to Use This Tool
- Wheel jumps back or scrolls the wrong way. Scroll slowly in one direction and check the direction glitches counter.
- Buying or inspecting a mouse. Confirm that scroll up, scroll down, and wheel click all register before you rely on the device.
- Checking an old mouse. Compare the up and down counts after the same number of turns to see if one direction is missing steps.
- Testing the tilt buttons. Verify that left and right tilt work, since many apps rarely use them.
- Reporting a problem. Use Copy results to paste your numbers into a support message or a repair request.
Tips for a Reliable Test
- Scroll in one direction only for a few seconds, then switch. Mixed scrolling makes odd results harder to spot.
- Do one slow test and one fast test. Some wheels behave well slowly but skip when spun quickly.
- Press Reset test between attempts so old numbers don’t mix with new ones.
- If results look wrong, try another browser or mouse to find out whether the wheel or the setup is the cause.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the page scroll instead of the test box?
Your cursor is outside the box. Move it inside the dashed area and scroll again.
What does a direction glitch mean?
It means the tool detected a scroll direction that conflicts with your actual movement. A few may happen if you change direction often. Many glitches during steady one-way scrolling suggest the wheel may be worn or dirty.
Why is my tilt left/right count zero?
Tilt counts only sideways wheel movement. If your mouse has no tilting wheel, or you haven’t pushed it sideways, the count stays at 0.
Is Last delta Y the same as the number of steps?
No. Steps count how many scroll movements were detected, while Last delta Y shows the size of the latest movement. Both can be useful, but they measure different things.
Can I use this test on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Swipe up and down inside the test box instead of using a mouse wheel.
Does pressing the wheel count as a scroll?
No. A press is counted under Wheel clicks, separate from scroll steps.
